When I am out of cell service, I see that map my tracks still tracks my distance traveled. How accurate is this?

When I am fully out of service using map my tracks app, I see that it still tracks my distance. How does the app work without ever being in service... is the distance accurate? I understand that if I go in and out of service the app tries to catch the numbers up.... do you have anymore information on service and accuracy of the distance calculator?

The app uses GPS to determine the distance. This works independently of the cell network so it will be just as accurate with or without a network.

If you are tracking live then the data will not sync online until you are back on a network but the distances will be good.
