Events that feature race routes also have a set of route files that can be downloaded and used in Garmin devices (or other navigational devices). After installing a route it will be available to follow during the event direct from the device you use. The best type of file to use will depend on the device.


Both TCX and GPX file formats can be used on Garmin 800,500 devices and Garmin 705/605 can use GPX files. We recommend that you experiment with the format that works best for your device.


Installing a TCX or GPX file on a Garmin 800

  1. First download the TCX or GPX file from Map My Tracks to your computer.
  2. Connect your Garmin 800 to your computer with a USB cable. This will create a new drive on your computer.
  3. Open your computer's file browser and locate the new drive that represents your Garmin 800.
  4. Open the Garmin directory then open the NewFiles directory.
  5. Copy the TCX or GPX files that you saved into the NewFiles directory on the Garmin 800.
  6. Now safely remove the USB drive (Garmin device) from your computer.
  7. Power up the Garmin 800 and browse to Courses. The race route will be listed here.


Installing a GPX file on a Garmin 705 or Garmin 605

  1. First download the GPX file from Map My Tracks to your computer.
  2. Connect your Garmin 705/605 to your computer with a USB cable. This will create a new drive on your computer.
  3. Open your computer's file browser and locate the new drive that represents your Garmin 705/605.
  4. Open the Garmin directory then open the GPX directory. If it doesn't already exist create a new folder called 'GPX'.
  5. Copy the GPX files that you saved into the GPX directory on the Garmin 705/605.
  6. Now safely remove the USB drive (Garmin device) from your computer.
  7. Power up the Garmin 706/605 and browse to Courses. The race route will be listed here.


Installing a TCX or GPX file on a Garmin 500

  1. First download the TCX or GPX file from Map My Tracks to your computer.
  2. Connect your Garmin 500 to your computer with a USB cable. This will create a new drive on your computer.
  3. Open your computer's file browser and locate the new drive that represents your Garmin 500.
  4. Open the Garmin directory then open the NewFiles directory. If it doesn't already exist create a new folder called 'NewFiles'.
  5. Copy the TCX or GPX files that you saved into the NewFiles directory on the Garmin 500.
  6. Now safely remove the USB drive (Garmin device) from your computer.
  7. Power up the Garmin 500 and browse to Courses. The race route will be listed here.
